Recently, AMD unveiled a new innovation that would enhance the way tablets and hybrid PCs work for end-users in the future. This innovation is slated to be shown off at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in the coming week.

The premise  of this innovation assumes that when a machine is docked, it is likely to be involved in serious work – which means more computational power and acceleration is required for maximum performance. This is where the new technology, called AMD Turbo Dock come in.

With Turbo Dock, the machine will go into the hybrid mode, with boosted CPU and GPU performance by up to 40 percent when docked. When undocked from the docking, the reverse happens. It will switch into power conservation mode to preserve battery life by throttling down the system to a lower specifications to support less demanding tasks.

The Turbo Dock technology is expected to be built around AMD’s 28-nanometer Temash SoC with Radeon HD Graphics. The Temash SoC low-power solution is expected to deliver about 5x more performance that competing x86 solutions. According to AMD, there will be dual-core and quad-core versions of the solution at the congress. A preliminary estimated availability of the new processors will be late 2013.
