iPhone 6 – Release date, looks, features and specs

sizes

The new upcoming iPhone could be one of the most iconic devices in Apple’s history. With the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, which are simple updates and upgrades of the previous model, there are much anticipation on the new iPhone 6. The Internet is choke full of rumors and speculations – and while some looked pausible, other looked somewhat outright wrong.

So what would the iPhone 6 release date be? While we think the iPhone 6’s release date will definitely be in 2014, it is a little unclear when in 2014 it would be. Based on past experience, Apple had launched its last few iPhone models at a special event in the month of September, so word has it that the iPhone 6 is likely to be launched again on September 2014. The new phone is likely to sport an iOS version 8, and boast a larger screen so as to match the intense competition of big screens handsets from the Android camp. Perhaps we could expect Apple to release more information about its new operating system in June. But for the real thing – the phone hardware, we would have to wait until September to actually see the new device in action with the new iOS. Oh, did I say that these devices might also include NFC and Touch ID too?

KGI’s analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had predicted that there would be two new iPhone models released in this round. He had charted that a 4.7-inch iPhone would be coming out towards the end of the 3rd quarter; followed by a  5.5-inch iPhone-Tablet coming in the fourth quarter. These devices are expected to sport a bigger battery offering “50% to 70% more watt-hours” compared to the iPhone 5s. For 4.7 inch model, the new Retina panel will sport a resolution of 1,334 x 750 pixels, which works out to a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch.  The new 5.5 inch version will feature a full HD 1,920 x 1,080-pixel display – working out to a pixel density of 401 ppi. It was also shared that these iPhone 6s will feature a new Apple A8 processor along with 1GB of RAM.

According to Nikkei sources, the mass production of liquid crystal display panels would have started in April to June quarter at a Sharp factory and other locations. LG was projected as the supplier for the LCD panel, and production for parts of the Touch ID fingerprint scanner and chips for liquid-crystal drivers has also begun. To whet your appetite, here are some of the “leaked” photos of the iPhone 6 which are circulating. Whether they are real or otherwise, it’s anyone’s guess. Have taking a look at them, and also imagining how the real thing might look like!
