Avoiding the Sucker’s Choice in Life – The Third Possibility

Sucker’s Choice is one where the mentality is that there are only two choices – and you are “forced” to choose between 1 of the 2. For example, I want money and peace, win or lose in a conflict with my parents. Sometimes, the question arises – can I work from 9 to 5pm (boss works up to 7pm) and still get promoted? Can I work full-time and still take good care of my young child? Can I be financially independent  and yet not work full-time in the office (which you may not like)?

In such situations, we tend to gravitate towards a conclusion of A “OR” B.

Do you know there is always a third possibility? The third possibility is a “AND”. Can I have money and peace? Can I go to disco and please my parents? Yes, of course! Why not? It’s about how you can find a solution, and communicate that with the people involved. So when you find yourself facing a problem and getting stuck in a “A or B” or sucker’s choice, start to think of the third possibility – the “AND” choice.

Start practicing the AND choice. It is possible, and it take some work, but it is possible, and it is so liberating to know that some times in life, you can have the cake and eat it. 🙂
